Algerian authorities have suspended Echorouk News TV for ten days following a racist social media post.
The derogatory term targeted African migrants after recent police detentions.
ANIRA, the broadcasting authority, deemed the publication “extremely serious.”
The authority stated the post contained “a racist and discriminatory term” amounting to “hate speech.”
They demanded an official apology from the channel’s management.
The Facebook post followed police raids where migrants from sub-Saharan Africa were detained.
Algeria has become a transit point for tens of thousands of undocumented African migrants seeking passage to Europe.
Many also seek employment within the North African nation.
Since April, Algeria’s state television reports the expulsion of approximately 5,000 Africans to Niger.
Around half of those expelled were reportedly from Niger itself.
