Dozens die as two buses collide and catch fire in Tanzania

Dozens lost their lives in northern Tanzania when two buses collided and erupted in flames, officials reported Sunday.

The tragic crash, occurring Saturday evening on the Moshi–Tanga highway near Sabasaba in Kilimanjaro region, claimed at least 37 lives.

Thirty others were injured, though the identities and nationalities of the victims have yet to be confirmed.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan expressed profound sorrow and extended condolences to the grieving families and the Kilimanjaro community.

“I send my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the quick recovery of the injured,” she said.

She urged all citizens to strictly observe road safety rules, warning that such preventable tragedies continue to devastate Tanzanian households.

The government has repeatedly campaigned to reduce road deaths, but fatal accidents remain a persistent challenge across the country.

This latest catastrophe casts a harsh spotlight on the urgent need for stronger enforcement and public awareness efforts.

In a nation where roads are lifelines, the loss of so many lives in a single blaze echoes with heartbreaking finality.

Authorities continue investigating the cause of the collision as they mourn the victims and rally to prevent future disasters.
