Torrential rains have unleashed devastating floods in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Approximately 30 people have tragically lost their lives, according to the provincial health minister.
The relentless downpour over the weekend caused widespread destruction to homes and vital road networks.
The overflowing Ndjili River, a significant waterway in the city of around 17 million residents, breached its banks on Friday night.
This inundation blocked the main national road, leaving numerous drivers stranded from Saturday evening onward.
The deluge also plunged several neighborhoods into darkness due to power outages.
Residents reported significant disruptions, including the cutoff of essential water supplies.
Kinshasa Governor Daniel Bumba Lubaki acknowledged the damage to water infrastructure.
He assured the public that efforts were underway to restore the supply within two to three days.
In a televised address, the governor attributed some fatalities to illegal housing and warned of potential evictions from unplanned settlements.
