At least three people died after a helicopter crashed in Nigeria on Thursday.
The helicopter was en route to an offshore oil production facility, according to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The helicopter, operated by East Winds Aviation, lost contact during a flight from Port Harcourt.
It was heading to the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) Antan oil facility, the NNPC said in a statement.
The aircraft was carrying eight people, including six passengers and two crew members.
Search and rescue efforts are ongoing, as authorities work to find survivors, said NNPC spokesperson Olufemi Soneye.
The Nigerian aviation ministry confirmed that the Sikorsky SK76 helicopter “ditched into the waters near Bonny Finima” in the Atlantic Ocean.
No emergency locator signal was detected, but efforts to locate the crash site are continuing.
The ministry has deployed military and low-flying aircraft to assist in the search.
