Islamic State affiliate carries out deadly attacks on Congo village

Nine villagers were killed in an attack by Islamic State-linked terrorists in eastern Congo on Saturday.

The assault occurred in Ngohi Vuyinga, a village within North Kivu province’s Lubero territory.

The attack, carried out by the Allied Democratic Forces, an IS affiliate, involved gunfire and machetes.

Local civil society leader Samuel Kagheni reported the attack targeted villagers on their farms.

Dozens were displaced, and several homes were burned. Kagheni expressed concern that the death toll may rise, citing missing persons.

The region, plagued by decades of conflict, hosts over 100 armed groups vying for control of its mineral wealth.

The violence has displaced approximately seven million people, creating a severe humanitarian crisis.

Residents are expressing renewed safety concerns, criticizing the government’s perceived inaction.

Youth leader César Kambale questioned the effectiveness of the Congolese armed forces, the FARDC.

He stated that civilians are being killed daily, despite the army’s presence.

The ongoing violence underscores the instability gripping eastern Congo.
