Namibia will inaugurate its first female president, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, on March 21, coinciding with the country’s 35th Independence Day.
Nandi-Ndaitwah, 72, vice president and a senior SWAPO member, won the November elections with 57.31% of the vote. She beat 14 rivals, avoiding a runoff.
Current President Nangolo Mbumba announced the date, urging the nation to prepare for the inauguration.
Nandi-Ndaitwah’s victory ensures SWAPO continues its rule since Namibia’s independence in 1990. She succeeds Mbumba, who has served as interim president following the death of Hage Geingob in February.
Her election marks a historic milestone for Namibia, highlighting progress in women’s leadership.
