A suicide bomber caused the explosion earlier this week near a military barracks in Abuja, Nigeria, injuring one person, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Northern and central Nigeria have experienced increased attacks by jihadist groups and criminal gangs.
The explosion occurred around 2:50 pm, approximately 5 kilometers from the president’s residence.
NEMA reported the bomber died instantly, and a passerby was injured when the device detonated while the bomber tried to enter the military post.
Security forces have not yet confirmed the blast’s cause, with the army referring to “an explosion” and launching an investigation.
Police are conducting a forensic analysis to determine the exact cause.
Images showed a bloodied body at the scene.
Abuja has previously been targeted by Boko Haram bombings.
The last major attack in the capital was in July 2022, when ISWAP fighters bombed a prison, killing five and freeing many inmates.
