SAF airstrikes kill 10 civilians in Darfur’s Mellit

At least 10 civilians were killed and over 40 others wounded following airstrikes by General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF) on the city of Mellit in North Darfur on Monday, according to eyewitnesses.

The airstrikes targeted several neighborhoods in Mellit, including al-Nasr and al-Qubba, where eight bombs were dropped, destroying four houses.

Two additional bombs struck the al-Aish and al-Tawahin markets, resulting in casualties and significant damage.

In the aftermath of the strikes, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) conducted a wave of arrests in the area.

According to witnesses, over 30 individuals were detained, including traders and members of a local emergency committee, on accusations of collaborating with the army and providing coordinates for the airstrikes.

The SAF has been conducting regular air attacks on RSF positions in Mellit and other parts of Darfur, as reports indicate that the RSF is preparing for an assault on El Fasher, the state capital.

The RSF seized control of Mellit in April. The town, located approximately 57 km (35 miles) north of El Fasher, holds strategic importance as it lies on the border between North Darfur and North State.
