Somalia’s elite Danab special forces have reportedly eliminated over 37 al-Shabaab terrorists in a recent operation in the southern Lower Jubba region.
The Ministry of Defense announced the successful raid in the village of Maqooqaha, west of Buulo Xaaji, on Saturday.
Working in concert with international allies, Danab commandos executed a “carefully executed operation” targeting senior al-Shabaab operatives.
The ministry stated that the identities of these high-value targets will be disclosed soon.
The Somali army, spearheaded by its Danab units, is committed to an “extensive campaign” aimed at dismantling the terrorist network.
This ongoing effort underscores the armed forces’ dedication to defending the nation, safeguarding civilians, and ensuring long-term stability.
The Ministry of Defense firmly reiterated that “the fight to eradicate Al-Shabaab continues on all fronts.”
Somalia has grappled with persistent insecurity for years, with both al-Shabaab and ISIS (Daesh) presenting significant threats.
Al-Shabaab, in particular, has waged a relentless insurgency against the Somali government for over 16 years, frequently targeting officials and military personnel.
