Somalia has received a substantial shipment of military equipment from the African Union, aiming to strengthen its security infrastructure and stabilize the region.
The Somali Foreign Ministry announced Thursday that the shipment included armored vehicles, helmets, vests, an armored personnel carrier, fuel and water tankers, engines, and medical supplies.
“This support bolsters regional security, strengthens institutions, and advances counterterrorism efforts,” the ministry stated, expressing gratitude to the African Union for its continued assistance.
The delivery comes as Somalia transitions to a new security framework. In December 2024, the UN Security Council approved the establishment of the African Union Stabilization Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
The mission, set to replace an earlier AU force, will operate for an initial one-year period, focusing on combating al-Shabaab militants.
This latest shipment underscores ongoing international efforts to support Somalia’s fight against insurgency and its pursuit of long-term stability.
