South Africa increases patrols after deadly attack

Security has been tightened at Kruger National Park in South Africa after two tourists were found killed, authorities confirmed Sunday.

The victims, a 71-year-old South African man and an unidentified woman, failed to return to their lodge on Wednesday evening.

Other tourists later discovered their bodies in a river on Friday afternoon after a search operation was launched locally coordinated.

Police said the man had stab wounds and the woman showed bruising, while their missing vehicle has not been recovered.

SANParks said it is deploying additional ranger units and monitoring resources in specific areas of concern across the reserve region.

It also said it is enhancing technology systems to strengthen surveillance and early warning capabilities throughout the vast park network.

It marks the first time in the park’s 100-year history that visitors have been killed within its protected boundaries area.

Kruger National Park spans 20,000 square kilometres and shares borders with Zimbabwe and Mozambique across South Africa’s north-east region respectively located.
