Turkey boosts security cooperation with Burkina Faso during visit

Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Burhanettin Duran visited Burkina Faso on May 13-14 to enhance bilateral ties and discuss critical security matters.

His visit centered on counterterrorism efforts, promoting regional stability in the Sahel, and exploring avenues for increased cooperation between Turkey and Burkina Faso.

Duran engaged in discussions with Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo and Foreign Minister Karamoko Jean Marie Traore.

Prime Minister Ouedraogo emphasized the strong mutual desire to diversify and deepen the relationship between the two nations.

Foreign Minister Traore hailed Turkey as a reliable friend during challenging times, particularly in the fight against terrorism.

Traore noted Turkey’s role in fostering security and peace within Burkina Faso and in efforts to clear the country of terrorist elements.

Burkina Faso views Turkey as a strategic partner and intends to intensify cooperation with Ankara.

During the official visit, the foreign ministries of both countries signed two significant memoranda of understanding.

Furthermore, both parties agreed to hold comprehensive political consultations in Ankara later this year to cover all facets of their bilateral relations.
