World condemns terror attacks in Mali

Coordinated attacks by armed groups struck multiple Malian cities on Saturday, wounding at least 16 civilians and soldiers, authorities said.

The transitional government reported assaults in Bamako, Kati, Sevaré, Gao and Kidal, describing a swift military response that contained the violence.

Security forces neutralised several attackers and regained control, officials said, as calm gradually returned to the targeted urban and strategic locations.

“At present, the situation is totally under control,” the government said, praising troops while urging residents to remain vigilant.

The attacks triggered swift international condemnation, as regional and global partners voiced concern over Mali’s fragile security landscape and civilian safety.

Senegal denounced the violence and expressed solidarity, while Morocco described the assaults as cowardly and criminal, reaffirming support for Mali’s sovereignty.

China, the United States and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation condemned the attacks, offering condolences and backing efforts to restore peace and stability.

Russia’s embassy in Bamako also condemned the incidents, saying the coordinated assaults aimed to undermine national security and destabilise the country.

Mali has grappled with persistent insecurity since 2012, as armed groups repeatedly target military installations and civilian centres across its vast territory.

Despite military operations and international support, violence continues to test state authority, leaving communities exposed to recurring waves of unrest and uncertainty.
