Ghana has received a $35 million dividend from Australian-listed Perseus Mining, seven times last year’s payout, officials announced this week.
Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson said Perseus Mining Ghana handed over GH¢391.2 million, crediting the surge to stronger company profits.
The sum dwarfs the $5 million dividend paid for 2024, reflecting Ghana’s 10% free-carried stake in the Edikan Gold Mine.
“Ghana must receive its fair share from the extractive sector,” Forson said, defending a new sliding-scale royalty system tied to prices.
The windfall follows sweeping January reforms strengthening local-content rules and pushing miners toward domestic processing of gold ore.
From September 1, licensed aggregators must refine all gold doré inside Ghana before export, ending approvals for unrefined shipments abroad.
Ghana produced roughly six million ounces of gold in 2025, a record haul, with small-scale miners supplying about half.
