Indonesia’s geothermal and pharma projects boost African ties

Indonesia is set to sign $3.5 billion in business deals with African countries during the second Indonesia-Africa Forum, held in Bali.

The forum, running until September 3, aims to boost economic cooperation and expand export markets.

President Joko Widodo highlighted that trade volumes and agreements between Indonesia and Africa have grown significantly.

His opening speech underscored the importance of these partnerships for both regions.

The forum will feature several key agreements, including a geothermal project between Indonesia’s Perusahaan Listrik Negara and Tanzania’s TANESCO, and a deal between Bio Farma and Ghana’s Atlantic Lifesciences Ltd.

Details of the agreements were not fully disclosed by Indonesia’s foreign ministry.

However, these deals mark a significant step in strengthening economic ties between Indonesia and African nations.

To ensure safety during the forum, Indonesian authorities will enhance airport surveillance to control the spread of mpox, which was also discussed at the recent Indonesia-Africa Parliamentary Forum.
