TotalEnergies says safety of Gabon operations is ‘main priority’

On Wednesday, French oil corporation TotalEnergies TTEF.PA announced its commitment to safeguarding the well-being of its employees and operational activities in Gabon, emphasizing that this is its “main priority.”

A cadre of senior military officers in Gabon asserted their takeover of power during the early hours of Wednesday, immediately following the announcement by the Central African nation’s election authority that President Ali Bongo had secured a third term.

TotalEnergies disclosed that it maintains a workforce of 350 individuals in Gabon and holds the position of the country’s primary distributor of petroleum products, operating 45 petrol stations. Furthermore, Gabon represented 0.6% of the company’s oil and gas production in 2022.

The organization did not promptly provide a response to inquiries regarding whether the coup might potentially affect its operations.
