Chinese President Xi Jinping has pledged support to Libya for stability and development. Xi made this commitment during a meeting with Libyan Presidential Council Chairman Mohammad Al-Manfi in Beijing. Al-Manfi is attending the three-day Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit.
Xi emphasized China’s readiness for friendly cooperation with Libya. He expressed China’s willingness to work with Libya for steady and sustained bilateral ties. The two countries have maintained diplomatic relations for 46 years, marked by mutual support and sincerity, according to China’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying.
Leaders and representatives from 53 African nations are in Beijing for the ninth FOCAC summit. Established in 2000, FOCAC aims to enhance China-Africa cooperation. Xi also held talks with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, highlighting China-Ethiopia ties as a shining example of China-Africa friendship.
Xi met with Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema and Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan. Both countries are celebrating 60 years of diplomatic relations with China this year. Xi praised the ties and reiterated China’s commitment to Africa.
Xi’s state visit to Tanzania in 2013 outlined China’s Africa policy. The principles of sincerity, real results, affinity, and good faith were emphasized. Xi also met with leaders from Senegal, Equatorial Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Cameroon.
Hundreds of officials and business leaders are attending the FOCAC summit. Xi addressed a welcome banquet, expressing his belief in the strong foundation of the China-Africa community. He highlighted the shared fight against imperialism and the joint path towards development and modernization.
Xi will deliver a keynote address on Thursday. The address will focus on advancing modernization and building a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future. The summit will adopt two key documents on Friday, aiming to chart a path for high-quality China-Africa cooperation over the next three years.
