Arab League to discuss Israel’s ‘crimes of genocide’ in Gaza

The Arab League has announced plans to hold an emergency meeting on Wednesday to discuss potential responses to what it describes as Israel’s “crimes of genocide and starvation” in the Gaza Strip.

The 22-member bloc stated that the meeting was requested by Palestine and will be convened by permanent delegates at the league’s headquarters in Cairo.

The announcement follows a request submitted by Palestine’s representative to the Arab League, Muhannad Al Aklouk, who called for an extraordinary session to address the ongoing Israeli military offensive in Gaza, which has resulted in widespread casualties and destruction.

According to reports, the offensive began following a cross-border attack on October 7 by the Hamas, resulting in the deaths of approximately 1,200 people.

Since then, over 32,800 Palestinians have been killed and 75,300 others injured, with the population facing dire shortages of essentials due to Israel’s blockade on the territory.

The conflict has led to internal displacement for 85% of Gaza’s population, exacerbating humanitarian concerns.

The United Nations has reported that 60% of the enclave’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed as a result of the hostilities.

Israel has faced accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice, with the court urging Israel to take action to prevent famine in Gaza.
