Egypt’s Sisi urges restraint in talks with top US military official

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi cautioned against further regional escalation during a meeting with the United States’ highest-ranking general.

This comes as cross-border hostilities between Israel and Lebanon have intensified.

Sisi emphasized the dangers of a new conflict emerging in Lebanon, urging the preservation of Lebanon’s stability and sovereignty, according to his office’s statement, amid growing concerns over the volatile situation.

His meeting with US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Charles “CQ” Brown, occurred after Israel launched air strikes on Lebanon.

The strikes aimed to preempt a potential Hezbollah attack, raising fears of wider regional conflict.

Egypt, a key mediator, reiterated calls for restraint while the US, Israel’s main military ally, confirmed its readiness to support.

Planned talks in Cairo, including CIA chief William Burns, aim for a truce in Gaza, though prospects seem dim.

Sisi also urged the international community to take a stronger stance and support joint Egyptian-American-Qatari efforts toward a ceasefire and prisoner exchange.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, was set to address recent events.
