Israeli warplanes strike southern Lebanon, breaking truce

Israeli warplanes launched airstrikes in southern Lebanon on Friday, violating the fragile ceasefire that began on November 27.

The Lebanese state news agency reported Israeli drones flying over Beirut’s southern suburb before warplanes targeted areas near the Litani River in Nabatieh.

The strikes hit between Yohmor al-Chaqif and Zawtar al-Sharqiyah, while additional buildings were destroyed in the town of Odaisseh in the Marjayoun district.

These actions brought the total violations on Friday to 14, raising the total since the ceasefire to 155.

The ceasefire agreement requires Israel to withdraw forces from south of the Blue Line, while the Lebanese army must deploy within 60 days.

The U.S. and France are overseeing the agreement, though enforcement remains unclear.

The conflict has claimed over 4,000 lives and left more than 16,500 injured. Over 1 million people have been displaced in Lebanon since October 2023.
