Jordan will host a four-party summit in Amman on Wednesday, featuring U.S. President Joe Biden alongside Egyptian and Palestinian leaders, to address the “alarming” consequences of the Gaza conflict for the region, as reported by state media.
The talks will center on strategies to cease the “ongoing war in Gaza” and identify a political path that can rekindle the peace process, as per an official statement.
Jordan’s King Abdullah is set to convene an independent summit with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al Sisi and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
On Tuesday, the monarch issued a caution against any attempts to relocate Palestinian refugees to Egypt or Jordan, emphasizing that the humanitarian crisis should be addressed within Gaza and the West Bank. Amman, which ceded the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, to Israel during the 1967 Middle East conflict, is concerned that the escalating violence could have far-reaching consequences, given the significant Palestinian population within Jordan.
