Palestinians reject Trump’s Gaza plan, vow to stay

Residents of Gaza have strongly opposed U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial plan to take control of the Gaza Strip and resettle Palestinians elsewhere, with many vowing to remain in the ruins of their homes. Trump, who envisions transforming Gaza into a “Riviera of the Middle East,” has sparked outrage among Gazans who, after enduring months of devastation, insist they will not leave.

“We are not going anywhere. Trump can keep his ideas, money, and beliefs,” said Samir Abu Basel from Gaza City. “He should send the Israelis to the U.S. if he wants a solution. We are the rightful owners of this land, not them,” added Abu Basel, whose home was destroyed during the conflict.

After Israeli airstrikes that killed over 47,000 people in Gaza, many fear the possibility of another “Nakba”—a term used to describe the 1948 mass displacement of Palestinians when Israel was established. “We won’t allow another Nakba. Our children have been raised to defend our home,” said Um Tamer Jamal, a 65-year-old mother from Gaza City.

The plan has also been condemned by international powers, as well as by Palestinian political factions. Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas emphasized that Gaza is an integral part of Palestine. Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri described Trump’s proposal as “ridiculous and absurd,” warning it could destabilize the entire region.

Despite the devastating war and ongoing hardships, Gaza residents, like those in Khan Younis, remain resolute, focusing on rebuilding their homes rather than fleeing. “You helped cause this destruction,” said Ahmed Shahin, addressing President Trump. “You must rebuild while we stay on our land.”
