Secret Service neutralizes threat near Trump’s Florida golf course

Secret Service agents opened fire Sunday after spotting a person with a firearm near former President Donald Trump’s golf club.

Trump, currently a Republican presidential candidate, was golfing at the time and is unharmed.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach.

The suspect, armed with an AK-style rifle, fled the scene in an SUV and was later apprehended by local law enforcement.

The arrest occurred roughly 45 miles north of the golf course, according to officials.

Agents reportedly fired after seeing the suspect push the rifle through the fence surrounding the course.

Trump’s security detail had been a few holes ahead of him when the person was spotted.

The Secret Service and Trump’s campaign confirmed his safety and stated that an investigation is ongoing.

No injuries were reported.

This incident follows a recent assassination attempt in July, during which Trump was grazed by a bullet at a Pennsylvania rally.

Security has since been heightened at Trump events.

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the incident. Both expressed relief that Trump is safe.
