Yemen’s Houthis say it hit 107 ships amid Israel’s Gaza offensive

Yemen’s Houthi rebel group has claimed responsibility for attacks on 107 ships since November 2023, citing solidarity with Palestinians in the ongoing conflict with Israel.

In a televised address, Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi detailed attacks this week alone, including strikes against eight vessels in the Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and Indian Ocean using ballistic missiles and drones.

This brings the total number of attacks to 107, involving over 600 missiles and drones.

The Houthis are targeting cargo ships linked to Israel, either through ownership, operation, or transporting goods to and from the country.

This action stems from the deadly conflict in Gaza, where the Houthis claim nearly 35,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023.

Tensions have further escalated with recent US and UK airstrikes on Houthi positions in Yemen.

In response, the group declared all American and British ships legitimate military targets.

The Red Sea is a critical global shipping lane, particularly for oil and fuel transport.

The Houthi attacks raise concerns about the disruption of vital trade routes and pose a potential threat to global energy supplies.
