Burhan has no will to make peace in Sudan: politician

US adviser Massad Boulos has told the UN Security Council that General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan lacks the political will for peace and has rejected proposals for a humanitarian truce.

Sudanese politician Khaled Omar Youssef said Boulos informed the Council that Washington had prepared a draft ceasefire to halt Sudan’s escalating conflict, but Burhan rejected it.

He said US mediators now see no clear commitment to ending the war.

Youssef warned that continued fighting is worsening civilian suffering, with rising displacement, economic collapse and failing basic services, while most Sudanese are demanding an immediate return to civilian rule and peace.

He also said authoritarian ambitions are blocking any political settlement and called for accountability for those driving the conflict.

The US also raised concerns over alleged chemical weapons use in 2024 and urged cooperation with international investigators.

No decisions were taken, but officials warned Al-Abyad could become a new flashpoint.
