Burhan’s army drone targets civilians, children among injured

An eight-year-old child is among several civilians injured following a reported drone strike in Sudan’s Blue Nile State, according to local sources and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North, or SPLM-N, which has blamed General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army for the attack.

The group described the strike as a violation of international humanitarian law and called on human rights and aid organisations to closely monitor what it says are repeated attacks in the New Fung region, urging accountability.

Local sources say a drone hit the Injili area of Kurmuk locality on Wednesday, striking a residential house and injuring eight civilians in total.

Among the wounded are Mayor Habil Malakal, whose home was reportedly destroyed, along with three women and the child.

There are also reports of recent similar drone strikes in Yabus and Balila, also in Blue Nile State.

The developments are raising fresh concerns that drone operations are increasingly reaching populated civilian areas, with children among those at growing risk as fighting intensifies.

Burhan’s army has not yet publicly responded to the allegations made by SPLM-N or to reports of the latest strike in Injili.
