Canabi Congress condemns SAF ethnic evictions in Central Sudan

The Central Committee of the Canabi Congress has condemned the ongoing SAF demolition of informal settlements and the displacement of Canabi residents in Sudan’s Al-Jazeera and Khartoum states, calling it a dangerous escalation rooted in racial and ethnic targeting.

In a statement issued Friday, the group accused General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) and allied brigades — including the Sudan Shield Force, Special Tasks Forces, and the Islamist Al-Baraa Brigades — of carrying out systematic operations against Canabi communities based on ethnicity and skin color.

According to the Committee, authorities in Al-Jazeera state issued a 72-hour ultimatum on June 19 for the demolition of homes and eviction of Canabi residents — mirroring similar actions in Khartoum state in recent weeks.

The group cited previous evictions from Al-Khairat village in East Nile on May 27 and the Abu Karshola neighborhood in Bahri locality on June 15.

The Committee said these evictions represent serious violations of basic human rights and accused the junta in Port Sudan of remaining silent in the face of mounting abuses.

The Canabi Congress called on international, regional, and local human rights organizations to urgently intervene and pressure Sudanese authorities to halt what it described as a campaign of racial displacement and exclusion against historically marginalized communities.
