Clashes in Sudan’s Darfur force 15K households to flee

Renewed fighting between the General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has forced 15,000 households to flee Al-Malha in North Darfur.

The United Nations migration agency, IOM, reported the significant displacement on Monday.

Residents sought refuge in other areas within the Al-Malha locality between March 20 and 21.

The strategic town of Al-Malha serves as a crucial supply artery.

It connects Sudan’s western regions with the country’s northern and eastern territories.

The situation remains highly volatile and unpredictable, according to the International Organization for Migration.

This recent surge in violence follows reports from the Sudanese Doctors Network.

The conflict, which began in mid-April 2023, has had devastating consequences.

It has claimed over 20,000 lives and displaced an estimated 14 million people, according to UN and local sources.

The ongoing war has triggered a severe humanitarian crisis.

Millions face the looming threat of famine and death due to critical food shortages.

The international community and the UN continue to urgently call for an immediate cessation of hostilities.

The conflict has now spread to 13 of Sudan’s 18 states, deepening the nation’s suffering.
