The UN Human Rights Council has ordered an urgent fact-finding investigation into alleged violations and abuses in Sudan’s El Obeid as the humanitarian crisis deepens.
The resolution, adopted unanimously on Monday, voiced alarm over escalating violence, worsening civilian suffering and growing risks of serious human rights violations.
The Council said civilians face limited access to essential services, while children and displaced people remain particularly vulnerable.
UNICEF said the fighting has killed 18 children and injured 17 in El Obeid since May, contributing to 330 child casualties across Sudan this year.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said 15 drone strikes documented between June 6 and 28 killed at least 45 civilians and injured 41 others.
The Council condemned attacks on civilians, civilian infrastructure and humanitarian workers, urging all parties to allow unhindered aid access, agree to an immediate ceasefire and protect civilians.
