Two Sudanese aid workers abducted in eastern Chad have been released after days of intensive efforts by local community leaders.
Hassab Al-Daem Hamed Al-Dawai and Bashir Musa Khater were kidnapped near the border city of Adré while carrying out a humanitarian mission.
The two men, who work for Doctors of the World and Alema, disappeared after localized border closures disrupted movement in the area.
Family members said the aid workers were severely beaten during their captivity in Chad.
Chadian authorities and the two aid organizations have not yet commented publicly on the abduction or the workers’ release.
