More than 6,000 flee West Darfur violence near Chad border

More than 6,000 people have fled the town of Kulbus and nearby villages in Sudan’s West Darfur State after violence forced families from their homes.

The International Organization for Migration’s Displacement Tracking Matrix said 6,005 people were displaced on June 29 following a sharp deterioration in security across the area.

Most families headed towards the Chadian border, seeking safety as insecurity spread through Kalbus locality and surrounding communities.

The agency said the security situation remains volatile and continues to change rapidly, leaving many displaced families facing an uncertain future.

It added that monitoring teams are tracking developments closely and will release further updates as new information on displacement and population movements becomes available.
