SAF Drone strike hits key Ardamata bridge in West Darfur

A drone strike blamed on General al-Burhan’s SAF hit the Ardamata bridge in El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur, on Tuesday morning, damaging the key crossing and forcing traffic across it to stop, local sources said.

The sources said the drone carried out two strikes on the bridge, firing two missiles that hit the structure directly. The attack disrupted transport across one of the most important routes linking eastern and western parts of El Geneina and wider areas of Darfur.

The bridge is a vital passage for commercial goods, food supplies and humanitarian aid entering Sudan through the Adre border crossing with Chad. It is also used to move supplies toward several areas and displacement camps, including Tawila, parts of Jebel Marra and other communities that depend heavily on aid deliveries passing through the route.

The strike comes as infrastructure in West Darfur is still struggling to recover from floods and heavy rains that damaged or destroyed several key bridges in the region. Ardamata bridge had previously suffered partial damage before being repaired and brought back into service.

Local sources warned that the timing of the attack, just ahead of the rainy season, could leave large parts of Darfur increasingly isolated and complicate the movement of food, medicine and humanitarian assistance.

They said any prolonged closure of the bridge risks worsening already severe humanitarian conditions in areas that rely on the corridor for essential supplies.
