Sudan rivals agree to spare Khartoum, Nyala airports: Report

General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have reportedly reached informal understandings to avoid targeting key airports in Khartoum and Nyala, according to sources cited by Darfur24.

The reported arrangement is aimed at facilitating humanitarian access and protecting critical civilian infrastructure, following repeated drone strikes that previously damaged both facilities.

Sources told Darfur24 that attacks on Khartoum and Nyala airports have significantly declined in recent weeks, despite both SAF and RSF maintaining advanced drone capabilities.

The understandings were said to have been brokered through mediation efforts involving foreign governments and international organizations, as part of broader attempts to reduce escalation.

Monitoring by Darfur24 indicates that recent RSF drone strikes targeting multiple cities did not include Khartoum Airport, suggesting a degree of adherence to the reported arrangement.

Nyala Airport, located in South Darfur, was reopened by the RSF in September 2024 to facilitate supply deliveries, while Khartoum Airport resumed limited operations after SAF regained control of the capital in May 2025.

The outlet noted it was unable to independently verify the existence of the agreement with either side.
