The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has accused Al Burhan’s army (SAF) of deliberately undermining peace negotiations aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in the country.
In a statement released on Sunday, the RSF said that Burhan’s army, under the influence of the Islamic Movement, has consistently obstructed efforts to achieve a ceasefire and address the humanitarian crisis.
The RSF highlighted its participation in the Jeddah and Manama negotiations, where it demonstrated a willingness to compromise.
However, the fighting force said that Burhan’s army had shown intransigence and a disregard for the suffering of the Sudanese people, “whose name they want to hijack, and whose representation they wish to claim.”
The RSF further accused the SAF of rejecting the humanitarian truce called by the Security Council and avoiding participation in the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) summit.
Despite these setbacks, the RSF stated its continued commitment to peace and its readiness to participate in the upcoming Geneva negotiations on August 14th, which aim to establish a nationwide ceasefire, improve humanitarian access, and implement a robust monitoring mechanism.
“(RSF) is fully prepared to participate in the negotiations the United States plans to organize in Geneva on August 14th,” the group said.
RSF emphasized that its flexibility in negotiations should not be mistaken for weakness and reiterated its demand for a political process led by civilian forces to address the root causes of the conflict.
The RSF also clarified its position on the negotiation process, stating that it will only engage in talks with Burhan’s army and will not involve other Sudanese institutions.
The group asserted that there is no legitimate government in Sudan following the October 25, 2021 coup and the subsequent outbreak of war.
The statement underlined that the RSF’s unwavering commitment to ending the suffering of the Sudanese people and building a new Sudan based on democracy, social justice, and equality.
