More than 11,000 people have been displaced in South Darfur over three days following renewed tribal clashes, the International Organization for Migration said.
In a statement, the IOM said its displacement tracking teams recorded the movement of 11,630 people from Kubum town, Markandi, Umm Labasa village and surrounding areas in South Darfur’s Kubum locality.
The displacement followed fighting between the Beni Halba and Salamat tribes between June 4 and June 6, according to the agency.
The IOM said those forced to flee moved to other parts of Kubum locality, as well as to North Nyala, South Nyala, Al-Furshan, Rehaid Al-Berdi and Shattaya localities within South Darfur.
The latest displacement adds to the deepening humanitarian crisis in Darfur, where local communities continue to face insecurity, disrupted services and repeated waves of movement caused by conflict.
