U.S. President Donald Trump remains interested in efforts to resolve the crisis in Sudan, his adviser for Arab and African affairs, Massad Boulos, said, describing the conflict as the world’s worst humanitarian emergency.
Boulos said in a post on X that he discussed developments in Sudan with Romaric Roignan, France’s director for North Africa and the Middle East at the Foreign Ministry.
The talks focused on international efforts to address the Sudanese crisis, including U.S.-French cooperation around the Berlin conference on Sudan and a joint statement of principles backed by Washington, Paris and 20 other countries and organizations.
The remarks add to a series of recent diplomatic contacts involving Boulos, who has previously said Sudan’s conflict cannot be solved militarily and requires a political process.
Sudan has been gripped by war since April 2023 between General al-Burhan’s SAF and the Rapid Support Forces. The conflict has killed tens of thousands of people, forced about 4.5 million people to flee the country and displaced nearly 13 million others internally, creating what the United Nations has described as the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
