TIKA, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency, has inaugurated a “Safe Home” in Port Sudan.
The center will support women and girls impacted by Sudan’s ongoing conflict since April 2023.
Launched under Turkey’s “Year of the Family,” the initiative partners with Sudan’s Red Sea State’s Ministry of Social Development and the Bit Makali National Association.
The “Safe Home” aims to aid displaced women from conflict zones like Khartoum and provide psychological treatment.
Vocational training will also be offered to victims of sexual violence and forced marriages, fostering their independence.
The opening ceremony saw attendance from local officials and the Turkish Ambassador to Sudan.
The Red Sea State Governor praised the project’s “therapy through work” model and Turkey’s support.
The Turkish Ambassador emphasized the center’s role in psychological rehabilitation and societal reintegration.
TIKA has equipped the center with tools for sewing and cooking to help women earn a living.
Turkey reiterated its long-term commitment to Sudan’s recovery.
TIKA has implemented over 750 projects in Sudan since 2006.
The “Safe Home” specifically focuses on empowering vulnerable women affected by violence, helping them regain safety and confidence.
