US commits additional $200 million to Sudan relief efforts

The United States has announced an additional $200 million in humanitarian aid for Sudan, bringing the total US commitment to $2.3 billion.

Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on Sudan, Blinken emphasized the US’s ongoing efforts to provide relief.

“The United States has worked intensively with partners to provide relief to Sudan… today we are announcing another roughly $200 million,” he stated.

This increased funding aims to address the escalating humanitarian crisis caused by the ongoing conflict between the General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The conflict, which began in April 2023, has led to widespread displacement, destruction of infrastructure, and a severe food crisis.

Millions of Sudanese are facing famine and disease, with the situation deteriorating rapidly.

The UN has warned that Sudan could soon become the world’s largest hunger crisis.

The international community is urging both sides to cease hostilities and engage in meaningful dialogue to end the violence and allow humanitarian aid to reach those in need.
