Hounded beauty queen wins miss universe nigeria

Former Miss South Africa contestant Chidimma Adetshina was crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, ending a challenging period. Born in South Africa to a Nigerian father, the 23-year-old withdrew from the South African competition amid a nationality dispute.

Adetshina stepped down from Miss South Africa to protect her family’s safety after facing anti-foreigner sentiment. Despite the controversy, she expressed pride and gratitude for the support she received in Nigeria.

Her inclusion in Miss South Africa ignited xenophobic backlash, with accusations surrounding her mother’s identity. Yet, she was invited to compete in Nigeria, a chance to represent her father’s homeland.

First runner-up Paula Ezendu condemned the xenophobia, urging unity and emphasizing that “we’re all one family, we’re all human beings.” The controversy didn’t dampen Adetshina’s love for South Africa.

Adetshina will now represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe competition in November, confident in her chances of victory. “I know we are going to win,” she declared.
