Nigerian artist aims for largest drawing record

Nigerian artist and doctor, Fola David, has embarked on an ambitious project to claim the Guinness World Record for the largest drawing by an individual.

Over six days, David tirelessly worked on a massive 1,050 square meter artwork titled “Unity in Diversity” at a stadium in Lagos.

The artwork depicts two giant hands cradling a map of Nigeria, symbolizing the nation’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.

Nigeria, with its over 250 ethnic groups and nearly equal Muslim and Christian populations, can sometimes face ethnic tensions.

David hopes his artwork will serve as a powerful message of unity.

“Our diversity should be a source of strength, something that unites us,” David said upon completing the piece on Sunday night.

“It shouldn’t create divisions.”

David’s record attempt has been submitted to Guinness World Records for official verification.

If successful, he will surpass the current record held by Indian artist Ravi Soni, who created a 629.98 square meter drawing in 2021.
