UAE rejects Port Sudan junta’s claims as baseless, disruptive to peace

The United Arab Emirates issued a firm rejection on Tuesday, of allegations made by Sudan’s Port Sudan-based junta, which claimed Abu Dhabi is involved in the country’s civil war through support for armed factions. The UAE dismissed the accusations as “baseless and politically motivated”, according to a statement carried by the official WAM news agency.

“These are nothing more than weak media maneuvers designed to deflect attention from the direct responsibility of the Port Sudan authority in prolonging Sudan’s civil war,” the statement said, criticizing the body for sabotaging regional and international peace efforts over the past two years.

The UAE cited several international rulings and reports that debunk the claims. This includes:

  • A rejection by the International Court of Justice in The Hague of a case filed by the Port Sudan junta against the UAE
  • A UN Panel of Experts report dated April 17, 2025, which found no evidence implicating the UAE in Sudan’s internal conflict

“These documented facts confirm the repeated falsehood of the accusations and their complete lack of legal or factual basis,” WAM added.

The UAE also stated that the Port Sudan junta does not represent Sudan’s legitimate government, nor does it reflect the will of the Sudanese people. It urged the international community to support a civilian-led political transition, free from the dominance of either warring faction.

The statement further emphasized that such allegations were intended to derail peace efforts and to evade ethical, legal, and humanitarian responsibilities in ending the war.

Reaffirming its position, the UAE expressed full support for:

  • An immediate ceasefire
  • Civilian protection
  • Accountability for all perpetrators of atrocities, regardless of affiliation
  • A comprehensive and sustainable political solution that fulfills the Sudanese people’s aspirations for peace, security, and development
