Islamist meddling fuels SAF mutiny fears in Kadugli

A severe humanitarian and security crisis is gripping Kadugli as soaring food prices, cash shortages and dwindling medicines push families to flee toward areas held by the SPLM-N, residents and local sources say.

A local source said General al-Burhan’s SAF aircraft carried out daytime airdrops of supplies and military materiel at Kadugli airport on Friday to bolster forces stationed in the city. But tensions inside the security establishment are rising.

A military source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the outlet Idraak that the state security committee—chaired by the South Kordofan governor—fears a potential mutiny within SAF ranks due to the deteriorating economic situation. He said soldiers from the 14th Infantry Division have deserted positions and that frustration is mounting over what troops describe as civilian (Islamist) meddling in SAF decisions.

According to the source, personnel of the 14th Division have gone unpaid for a year, while some officers have allegedly turned to trading via the “Bankak” app, using soldiers’ funds in questionable transactions. He also claimed large stocks of sorghum held by the division—enough to cover city needs—are controlled by influential intelligence figures and managed without transparency.

These accounts could not be independently verified. Authorities have not publicly commented on the allegations.
