SCC rejects UN stance, demands recognition of TASIS government

The Sudanese Civil Committees (SCC) on Thursday rejected the UN Security Council’s statement on Sudan, condemning its refusal to recognise the Peace and Unity Government formed by the Sudan Founding Alliance (Tasis).

In a statement, the SCC said the Tasis government was created through a broad political coalition with widespread popular backing, and accused the Council of siding with the “old Sudanese State” that no longer represents the people’s will.

The group said the Council’s stance undermines constitutional legitimacy derived from popular support and entrenches the crisis by backing the Port Sudan junta, which it described as an instrument for restoring the ousted Islamic Movement regime.

The SCC accused the Port Sudan junta of war crimes, including the use of chemical and internationally banned weapons against civilians, and said the UN’s position effectively legitimises ongoing violence and repression.

It urged the Security Council and the United Nations to reverse their position, recognise the Tasis government as Sudan’s legitimate authority, and end dealings with the Port Sudan junta, which seized power in the October 21, 2021 coup and “ignited” the April 15, 2025 war.
