The United Arab Emirates condemned an attack on a World Food Programme convoy near Mellit in North Darfur, calling it a flagrant breach of international humanitarian law, but did not assign blame, state media said.
In a statement, the foreign ministry urged warring parties to uphold the Jeddah Declaration, protect civilians and aid workers, and keep humanitarian corridors open, reiterating its call for an immediate ceasefire and unhindered relief access.
The United Nations said a 16-truck WFP convoy was attacked on Aug. 20 near Mellit. General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces traded accusations over who was responsible and no casualties were reported. Residents on the ground, along with the Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS), accused Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan’s SAF of carrying out a drone strike in the area.
