Burhan’s army aligns with terrorists in Sudan unrest: SDLM

Head of the Sudan Democratic Liberation Movement Hasab Al-Nabi Mahmoud has said terrorist groups are fighting alongside General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan’s army to regain political power. Mahmoud said that these factions maintain regional links, including ties to the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Boko Haram, while some political leaders provide cover.

He said the groups are using the ongoing conflict as a tool for revenge, deliberately displacing civilians and consolidating influence over political decisions. All extremist Islamist organizations, Mahmoud noted, currently align with Burhan’s army, citing Al-Qaeda’s historic presence in Sudan since the 1990s.

Mahmoud highlighted Mohammed Ali Al-Jazouli, emir of Daesh in Sudan, as a supporter of the Army following April 15th developments, alongside other terrorist factions. He added that these groups wear green and yellow headbands as symbols of allegiance to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and its networks.

Boko Haram reportedly operates within Sudan under Jibril Ibrahim, leader of the Justice and Equality Movement, fully aligned with the Muslim Brotherhood and the Islamic Movement, close ally to Burhan’s army. “The extremist organizations moved between capitals until achieving their goals within Sudan, with the Islamic Movement serving as a strategic incubator,” Mahmoud said.

He accused the Muslim Brotherhood of igniting the war to return to power, using all means to punish and displace civilians. Mahmoud said the conflict represents a revenge campaign against the Sudanese people following the December 2018 revolution, with the Brotherhood controlling key military and political decisions.

He added that factions led by Ali Karti and Osama Abdullah influence Al-Burhan’s decisions regarding the continuation of the war. Mahmoud concluded that these groups will not hesitate to eliminate political opponents to reclaim authority, leaving civilians at risk.
