Hamas blames Israel for hindering Gaza ceasefire implementation

Hamas’ Al-Qassam Brigades said Sunday that Israel is obstructing the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

Washington launched the second phase of the truce in mid-January, following the October 2025 agreement under President Donald Trump.

Spokesman Abu Ubaida called on Israel to meet first-phase obligations before any further negotiations, warning of dangerous political manoeuvres.

Hamas officials, led by Gaza chief Khalil al-Hayya, met Egyptian authorities, Palestinian factions, and UN coordinator Nikolay Mladenov to press for full implementation.

The ceasefire, mediated by Türkiye, Egypt, and Qatar, aimed to end a two-year war that killed over 72,000 people and wounded 172,000.

Gaza’s Health Ministry reports 716 Palestinians killed and nearly 2,000 injured since the truce, amid ongoing violations by Israel.

The conflict devastated 90% of civilian infrastructure, with UN reconstruction costs estimated at $70 billion.

Hamas confirmed plans to resume talks in Cairo, stressing that adherence to the first phase remains crucial for lasting peace.
