Egypt’s military said Monday that joint air drills with China were continuing at several air bases nationwide.
The exercise, called Eagles of Civilization, aims to sharpen pilots’ skills and boost joint operational cooperation, the army said.
Training has also included aerial refueling maneuvers, part of deepening military ties between Cairo and Beijing.
Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Chen Xi said in mid-August the drills would conclude in early September.
The first edition was held in April 2025 at an Egyptian air base with several multirole fighter jets participating.
Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to arrive in Cairo on Tuesday, a source told Anadolu on condition of anonymity.
Egyptian media have confirmed the visit without specifying a date, as welcome banners rose across Cairo under tightened security.
It will be Xi’s first trip to Egypt in a decade, following President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s repeated visits to China, most recently in 2024.
