Rapid Support Forces (RSF) fighters allegedly detained a trader and his friend while they were travelling from Bileil locality to Nyala in Sudan’s South Darfur state, the trader’s family told local Sudanese media.
The family of Saif al-Din Mohamed said on Sunday that he had been missing for about 55 days before relatives learned he had been held by the RSF in Nyala.
According to the family, Mohamed was driving a pickup truck with his friend Abdo Mohamed when RSF fighters intercepted them and took both men to an RSF facility in the city.
Relatives said the trader was later transferred to Dagris prison, west of Nyala. They said they established his whereabouts through inquiries by family members, but his friend’s fate remained unknown.
The report did not specify a reason for the alleged detentions or identify any charges against either man. It included no response from the RSF, and the family’s account has not been independently verified.
Local Sudanese media also reported that several traders from Bileil detained previously remained in RSF custody in Nyala. The reports alleged that RSF intelligence personnel had carried out arrests targeting traders, employees and teachers from the locality, east of the city.
Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, fell under RSF control in October 2023 after the force captured the army’s main base there.
