A Swedish court on Monday acquitted three men of charges related to the preparation of a terrorist crime in 2023 and 2024 on behalf of the Islamic State. The men were, however, convicted for their involvement with the terrorist group Islamic State in Somalia.
The court found that while the men were not guilty of planning a specific terrorist attack, they had participated in activities supporting the group, including recruitment, spreading propaganda, and providing arms training.
According to the prosecution’s indictment from December, the men were accused of planning to kill or injure others, though no precise targets for the intended attack were named. The indictment also stated that the men had connections to an Islamic organization based near Stockholm.
Swedish security police had previously stated that the suspects were arrested to prevent a potential attack.
