US soldiers killed in Jordan, Biden vows retaliation

In a tragic incident on Sunday, a drone attack targeted a base in Jordan, resulting in the loss of three American troops.

President Joe Biden swiftly attributed the attack to Iran-backed groups and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.

This marks the first instance of American military personnel being killed by hostile fire in the Middle East since the commencement of the Israel’s Gaza war.

The aftermath of this event is expected to escalate tensions in the region, heightening concerns about a broader conflict directly involving Iran.

Hamas, a Palestinian group, asserted that the soldiers’ deaths underscore Washington’s support for Israel, warning of potential discord with the entire Muslim world if the Gaza conflict persists.

The group went further to caution about a possible “regional explosion” should the American-Zionist aggression continue.

President Biden, while acknowledging the ongoing efforts to gather facts about the attack, attributed it to Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq.

He affirmed the commitment to counterterrorism, asserting that those responsible would be held to account at a time and in a manner determined by the United States.

The U.S. Central Command reported 25 wounded in the attack near the Syrian border, withholding the identities of the deceased pending notification of their families.

Hamas spokesperson Sami Abu Zuhri emphasized the message behind the soldiers’ killing, suggesting that unless civilian casualties in Gaza cease, the American administration risks facing the ire of the entire Muslim nation, with potential repercussions leading to a “regional explosion.”

Amidst these developments, the Middle East is grappling with a growing crisis. U.S. and allied forces in Iraq and Syria have faced over 150 attacks since mid-October, often claimed by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq—an alliance opposing U.S. support for Israel in the Gaza conflict.

The latest flare-up in the Israel-Hamas conflict, triggered by the Hamas attack on October 7, has resulted in a significant death toll, sparking widespread anger in the region.

The United States swiftly provided military aid to Israel, contributing to a relentless military offensive in Gaza that has claimed thousands of lives, mainly civilians.

This surge in violence has not only impacted the immediate conflict zones but has also spilled over to other parts of the Middle East, involving Iran-backed groups in Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen.

The fear of a broader regional conflict, directly involving Iran, looms large, presenting a challenging scenario that Washington is actively seeking to avert.
